portage: crossing points
About the project

‘Jewellery is the oldest evidence of our capacity to “store information outside the human brain”’
As part of my role with Shetland Arts, I curated an exhibition of digital jewellery and interactive craft. This was the first show to solely feature this work in the UK. ‘Portage: crossing points’ was part of a Shetland Arts curatorial project which explored how we communicate with one another over distance as well as the particular challenges related to transporting and exhibiting work in a remote island location. It showcased the work of Sarah Kettley, Distance Lab and Hazel White.
The exhibition was made possible through curatorial and programme development funding from the Scottish Arts Council. Additional support came from Nottingham Trent, Newcastle and Dundee Universities.
