About the project
collaborative project, 2008 – present
Space2face is a restorative arts project I co-founded with Alyson Halcrow in 2008. It was initially set up as a partnership project between Shetland Arts and the Community Mediation Team but is now an independent project registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (charity number SC046828). Part of my freelance practice is as the Director-Practitioner for Space2face where I work alongside my colleague and fellow artist Amy Colvin. We are grateful to the following artists and writers who, at different times, have worked alongside us: Chloe Garrick, Malachy Tallack, Niela Kalra, Daniel Killeen, Ana Arnett and Jacqui Clark.
The project merges the arts with restorative practices to work with people of all ages who are involved in crime, conflict or harm in their lives. It provides space for participants to look at what has happened, how it has affected them and others, and what they need to move on with their lives in a safer way. Space2face works with individuals as well as groups. Referrals are received from the Children’s Reporter, Justice Social Work and Children and Families Social Work as well as through self-referrals.
Space2face was awarded a Restorative Practice Award, Criminal Justice category, in April 2016.
